Nature of request
The people and others who often visit various parts of the court state that whereas the pavement of the road from the bar of the New Temple of London as far as the gate of the palace of Westminster is broken up so that rich and poor both by or on foot by their passing receive great damage, and in bad times are often hampered in pursuing their business by the condition of the street, whereby it will be honourable and profitable both to the king and those of the court, and to others that the pavement is repaired in due manner. They request that the king order what is thought best is to be done.1)
Nature of endorsement
William de Leyr of London and Richard Abbot are to be assigned by a writ to inspect the defects of the pavement between the bar and the palace gate, and to have them repaired between the same, and to distrain all those who have tenements and rents between the bar and the palace for the paving, namely each contributing in proportion to the pavement before their tenement and the rent of the same. The mayor and sheriffs of London, and the sheriff of Middlesex, and the bailiffs of Westminster are to be commanded to attend and assist them in their premises.2) The mayor and aldermen of London and similarly the prior and bailiffs of Westminster are summoned before the council of the king at Westminster to inform of the contents of the petition.3) Coram magno consilio.

This petition can be dated fairly closely to 1315 by the title contained in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.289 which notes this as being 'Responses made in the presence of the king and his great council in the parliament of the king after the Octave of St Hillary, in the 8th year'.
