Nature of request
The Nevilles state that Ankaret and her first husband, William le Botiller (Butler) were seised for a long time in their lordship as of fee of a piece of land in Doddington pertaining to their manor of Doddington which is a free tenement of Ankaret, until Creting, Goch, and Griffith ap Ievan late bailiffs of the late Queen Eleanor's manor of Overton at their own will and without reasonable cause ejected them from it, and the piece of land remains even now in the king's hand. William le Botiller (Butler) whilst prosecuting his and Ankaret's right died. The Nevilles request that right be done to them for the land; that previously in the time of the king's father a writ ordered an enquiry of these matters, however the writ was not issued by the time of the king's death, so that the Nevilles request a similar writ as before to be sent anew to the justice of Chester and another.

The petition is dated to 1308-1309 by the headings from the Hale Ms. in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.273, which makes this 'Petitions in Parliament 2 Edw. II'. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 273-280, no. 31.
