Description
Petitioners
? petitioner name(s) illegible
Nature of request
Copy of a writ of Edward I to Nicholas de Audeley and Thomas de Macclesfield; whereas the king understands from a plea by Robert de Neville and Ankaret his wife that Ankaret and her first husband, William de Butler were seised for a long time in their lordship as of fee of a piece of land pertaining to their manor of Doddington, Adam de Creting, late bailiff of Overton of Queen Eleanor at his own will and without reasonable cause ejected them from it. William de Butler whilst prosecuting his and Ankaret's right died, and Ankaret has not yet pursued justice. To be better informed in this and do justice to Robert de Neville and Ankaret the king orders Audley and Macclesfield are by upstanding and law-worthy men, both English and Welsh of the parts, to diligently enquire into whether William de Butler and Ankaret were at any time seised of the piece of land as pertaining to their manor, and if so in what way, and whether they were ejected by Adam de Creting and by what manner, and by what cause, and if the piece of land by the ejection exists in the hands of the king by reason of the manor of Overton or not, and how much its annual value is in all issues. The inquisition is to be sent to the king without delay under Audley and Macclesfield's seals.

They should come to Chancery and should have a similar writ to the justiciar of Chester and to anyone else the chancellor wishes to assign.
