Nature of request
Ely states that he is prepared to come before the kind and his council to show how the king, council and people are deceived concerning bread, wine, ale, meat, fish, poultry and leather and other things by the ordinance of Forstallers and Regraters, and of those who take prises for the king and sell them for their own profit by the sufferance of the bailiffs, their associates and their hired men in the cities and towns to the damage of the king and his people at times to a third of a penny, and others to a half. Which things Ely will show as long as Ely is guaranteed according to the oath that he has made and has sustenance according to his deserts for serving the writs that he has purchased for the king and his people before the king's justices according to the law, and that the trespassers are not to make fines upon the middling people of the community who are oppressed and have made no trespass, but each trespasser be punished according to the law for his trespass, then the matter will, if it is dealt with according to the law, make a profit for the king of 10,000 marks.
Nature of endorsement
Ely is to have a writ to William de Ormesby and his colleagues, justices who were lately assigned to Ely's suit to enquire of theses matters concerning his petitions at Norwich etc., and Ely should have [any evidence] at the next parliament, and he should then prosecute his suit at the next parliament, and it will be seen then by the council of the king.

This is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 273-280, which states 'Although the petitions probably do all belong to 2 Edward II (1308-1309), there is nothing to indicate whether they were actually delivered or answered during any of the parliaments held during that year.' CCR 1307-13, p.563 is dated at Windsor, 10 January 1313.
