Description
Petitioners
John de Ingham; William de Seynt Martin (St Martin).
Name(s)
de Ingham; de Seynt Martin (St Martin), John; William
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners request that the king enquire into the truth of their petition, and return the manor of Steeple Langford, and a third of East Grimstead which had come into the hands of the king by the forfeiture of John de Monmouth the bastard. William de Seint Martin, one of the petitioners, and Oliver de Ingham had been suing John de Monmouth the bastard at the last eyre at Wilton, claiming the lands as their inheritance from John de Monmouth the better, their kinsman.
Nature of endorsement
A day is to be given at the next parliament, and in the meantime let the record be viewed and the petition heard.
Places mentioned
Stepellangeford (Steeple Langford), [Wiltshire]
Estgremestede (East Grimstead), [Wiltshire].
People mentioned
Oliver de Ingham
John de Monemue [Monmouth], the better
John de Monemue [Monmouth] the bastard.
Note
The petition must be after 1305-6 when a related petition of William de Seint Martin and Oliver de Ingham made a request for an inquest into the case (Rot. Parl., vol I, p.184a-b). As this current petition replaces Oliver with John, and refers to Oliver, it must be assumed that Oliver has died and his heir has continued in his place.John de Ingham and a Reginald de Seint Martin recovered the manor in the quindene of Hilary 1306.
