Nature of request
1) The people request if the king wishes, that he order the justice of the forest of Inglewood that he allow them to take stone from the forest to cover their houses in the city without impediment in the forest as they are often afflicted by fire.2) They offer a prayer to the king for the ordering of the city, and that they may have good will for the rebuilding of the city, and that the king may be more fully answered for his farm, and the repairs be better than they have been in the past.

The petition is dated to 1305 based on the dating of Rot. Parl., vol I, p.159. This can be no later than the 25 April 1305 when the king granted the people of Carlisle the right to take stone from Inglewood.
