Description
Petitioners
Robert Orford Bishop of Ely.
Name(s)
Orford, Robert

Occupation
Bishop of Ely
Nature of request
The bishop states that whereas Gilbert Peche held of the him and his church of Ely 4 knights fees and ¾ of a fee and half a fee in Madingley, Rampton, Cottenham, Impington, Harston, Lolworth and Long Stanton in Cambridgeshire which are of the bishop's barony, Gilbert Peche granted them to the king so that the bishop has to defend the fees against the king for his services in war and in other services that are owed, with the consequence that neither the bishop nor his predecessors have been able to have anything from the fees since the making of the grant. The bishop requests remedy so that his church is not disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
The bishop should have suit in the presence of the treasurer, chancellor and the barons of the Exchequer, and if it be so then the treasurer and barons should meet with the bishop concerning this so that the church is saved from loss. And concerning this let there be a writ of Chancery. And first it should be enquired of by which services the manors are held, and from whom with all the circumstances.
