Nature of request
Sprengthoese states that whereas he was appointed to lead footmen as far as Wales for the king's war there, and he had received the sum of £53 6s. 8d. for the wages of the footmen from Master William de Luwe; of this money he paid part for the wages, and the remainder he paid to woodcutters and carpenters and to William de Felton for the business of the king by the order of Roger Lestrange who was then captain of the king's host in those parts for which he has the details and the account sealed under the seal of Roger Lestrange, the money is now liable in the great roll of the Exchequer from Sprengthoese. He requests that the king order by a writ to his treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they allow Sprengthoese the money since he has paid the money for the king as he is able to show, and that he be discharged of it in the roll.

It is ordered by a writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they should hear the account and the testimony of Roger Lestrange, and make allowance for the sums owing. And if something appears doubtful they should enquire into it, and do what is just.
