Nature of request
Molesworth requests grace and remedy in as much as he has been amerced for 100s. before Ralph de Sandwich, justice of gaol delivery for Newgate because he did not wish to receive a writ under the seal of the same Ralph and make execution, for his oath states that he does not have to receive writs under the seal of a justice if he is not of an eyre.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested before the king by the barons of the exchequer present in this parliament that in the oath of the sheriff to the exchequer it is contained that he should not receive writs himself or by his deputies [suos] under the seal of the justice except in eyre or justices assigned in the same county; the king wishes that the 100s. within the petition should be entirely pardoned to Molesworth and on this let a writ of Chancery be sent to him etc. and that the oath of the sheriff should hereafter be amended in this that from thenceforth he should receive writs under the seal of the justice assigned to the gaol delivery at Newgate etc.

Note
The petition is dated to 1302 on the basis of Rot. Parl., vol I, p.154b (no. 5) which dates the complaint found as SC 8/1/16 to 1302. As SC 8/1/15 records that the petition was heard in parliament it must have been in one of the two parliaments of 1302, with the writ recorded in CCR 1302-7 p.44 being issued in July 1303.
