Nature of request
Notingham states that Anger de Ripon, clerk of the justice of King's Bench by force and arms against the peace of the king ejected Notingham from his church of Bentham, which church he had had of the gift of Geoffrey de Seint Mark, archdeacon of Richmond, and carried away his goods and books at his will and still holds them to the amount of 10 marks and more. Afterwards Notingham being aggrieved appealed to the court of Rome and there sued his plea for 10 years which is in no way contrary to the king's interests, Ripon having obtained a prohibition of the king to hinder Notingham's plea to the court of Rome. Notingham prays for the king's grace that he be able to sue his plea further at the court of Rome.
