Description
Petitioners
Richard de Loges.
Name(s)
de Loges, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Loges requests remedy of 3 matters:1) Loges states that Hugh de Loges his father, late forester of the fee of the forest of Cannock redeemed his lands for a fine of £100 for a trespass of venison. King Henry III returned the lands without the wood of Gailey which pertained to Loges' manor of Rodbaston. Loges requests the grace of the king for the return of the wood since it was not known in the time of the king's father for men to be disinherited for trespasses of venison.2) Richard de Loges will give 60 marks on account that the king should take into his hand the lands which were alientated from the sergeancy in the time of King Edward the Confessor and a long time afterwards, and that he return them to Loges.3) Loges further complains that the bishop of Chester has put him in sentence [of excommunication] because he has impleaded him in court Christian accusing him that he has caused the bishop to lose High Cannock which is the hand of the king (and rightly so), and whereas the whole country of Brewood used to be in the forest of Cannock until the bishops of Chester kept out the regarders by the sentence [of excommunication].
