Cumberland to Chesterfield: the French king has postponed his departure, presumably in the hope of the fall of Bergen op Zoom. Bathiani and Baron Reyschach do not agree with Sandwich meeting de Puissieux alone, but will not oppose it. Ligonier's letter [SP 87/23/131] and Saxe's answer [sp 87/23/132] having prepared the way, they have met that day at Liège. He is not encouraged at the outcome, although he does not believe the French would have any difficulty renouncing the pretender and his descendants. He has granted a passport to England to a person claiming to have full powers to negotiate for Spain. Dated at headquarters at Richelle. ff. 281-284
