Chesterfield to Cumberland: the king approves of Ligonier's letter to Saxe. The prisoners taken in the Mediterranean were not intended to be included in the cartel, but the king will endeavour to obtain the consent of his allies in Italy. He encloses a memorial by Count Bentinck [SP 87/23/117] and his own answer to it [SP 87/23/118]. Bentinck may be the Dutch representative in negotiations with Saxe. The king will show clemency to Farquharson. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 249-251
