Submission of an Ordinance for establishing a Civil Code in St. Lucia, together with a copy of a telegram Des Voeux sent asking for assent; Provisional Attorney General's [Mr. Ferguson] Report [Ordinance not in item]; protest against the Civil Code of Laws being passed with 'indiscreet haste', signed by Mr Moffat, Mr Fleming, Mr Goodman, and 2 others; copy of a letter from Dr. O'Carrol, the Coadjutor Bishop of Port of Spain, protesting against the code of laws to regulate marriage, with Des Voeux's comments on the letter; Printed Minutes of a Meeting of the legislative Council, held at the Council Chamber, Castries, the 16th, 17th, 18th, 21st, and 23rd days of August 1876; letter from Chief Justice Armstrong to Des Voeux discussing the proposed laws; letter from Attorney General Mr. LaCaze [written 4 March 1876, before his resignation] to Des Voeux expressing opposition to any changes in legislation to do with marriages of Roman Catholics; Attorney General of Barbados, Mr Semper's report on the St. Lucia Civil Code Ordinance in which he advises withholding of assent to the Ordinance until the Colonial office has fully considered the various subjects involved.
