Saxe to Ligonier: desire of the French king to make peace in all Europe. If it were only a question of France, the matter would be settled in hours, but he must consider his allies. The initiative is now with the British court. They will not regret their defeat in the Alps if it makes their arguments more convincing to Spain. Dated at camp at La Commanderye. ff. 116, 117
