Chesterfield to Cumberland, partly in cipher: the king's surprise that the prince of Orange has taken the command from Waldeck and given it to Cronstrom. Cumberland was correct not to show dissatisfaction. The king awaits a detailed peace proposal from the French court. His disappointment at the weakness of the Austrian contingent. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 86-88
