Description (What the record is about)

Kingston Lock Hospital: correspondence and return regarding maintenance and amount of aid to be contributed from imperial funds. 1867 law passed in Jamaica at insistence of War Office and Admiralty, for the better prevention of contagious diseases; under special arrangements made by War Department, Lock Hospital set up owing to Kingston being a naval and civil station. Sum contributed for building and allowance per bed per annum agreed (number proportionate to the forces), Colonial Government paid outstanding costs. War Department paid only initial amount, no annual contribution. Final agreement that War Department bear share of costs, amount settled upon.
