Maroons of Accompong Town, parish of Saint Elizabeth: report from Inspector General of Police, Major Prenderville. Refers to letter addressed to Queen, from Mrs Stracham, and petition from Maroon Chief. Stracham accuses authorities of maltreatment of Maroons and supports their claims to re-consideration of privileges. For example, Stracham argues: Maroons responsible for capturing criminals in parish when police fail, they have no means to education and public worship, have poor roads despite payment of taxes, should have privilege to bear arms. Prenderville's report dismisses all allegations, and comments that allowing Maroons to bear arms would be 'simply suicidal'.
Report based on visit Prenderville made to Accompong informing inhabitants of Governor's proposals to change privileges: no longer have exclusive status under law. Reply from Colonial Office finds Mrs Stracham's allegations 'without foundation'.
