Cumberland to Chesterfield: abandoning Maastricht would destroy all communication with Germany. The force which has marched with Waldeck should be sufficient to put Breda and Bergen op Zoom out of danger. Thirteen Irish officer prisoners have refused to sign an undertaking never to return to the king's dominions, and this has stopped the process of exchange. He has written to Saxe, who has sent orders to the French commissioners to proceed. He has written to him again to send a commissioner to Maastricht to settle the whole exchange. He welcomes the march of five battalions of Hanoverian troops to the army. Recommendations for promotions. Dated at camp at 'Rycholt'. ff. 44-47
