'Copy of his RH's answer to the paper given him by Sir John Ligonier': Cumberland will send next day to the king for instructions on the paper delivered to him by Ligonier, not doubting that his sentiments will be the same and that he desires peace as ardently as his most Christian majesty. Cumberland would think it glorious to be employed in an undertaking so necessary and useful, and would contribute as much as depended on him, thinking himself infinitely honoured that the king thought of treating with him. f. 12
