Report of Thomas Evance on James Bruce and Gilbert Grant, convicted at the Surrey Quarter Sessions at Kingston, for stealing (with John Loveday and Mathew Tile, the latter turning king's evidence) a river vessel and one-half hundred weight of linseed, value 300 (units of value not given), property of William Chapman on 15 September 1788. There is also a cover letter from Evace which purports to enclose a report on Thomas Green and Gilbert Grant. Grant attempted to prove an alibi but failed. Grounds for clemency: none given. Initial sentence: not given. Recommendation: Grant only; no mercy.
