Report of Jos Shaw on John Sarjeant, convicted at the Surrey Quarter Sessions at Reigate in May 1789, for stealing clothing, property of John Lett and Robert Ailworth, servants to John Glover, of Wallingham [Warlingham] in Surrey. Grounds for clemency: perhaps his first offence, previous good character and the public benefit of his serving in HM. Navy. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to enlist in HM. Navy.
