Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (11 people, mainly shipwrights and lighter builders at Blackfriars in London and Backfields in Southwark in Surrey, including the prosecutor) on behalf of Edward Leach, shipwright, convicted at the Old Bailey in April 'last', for stealing a pit saw, value 10/-, property of Thomas Hearnes or Saseby/Saxbey Munns, of Lambeth in Surrey. Grounds for clemency: first offence, had previously served at sea and offers to enlist in HM. Navy, previous good conduct, well supported in his petition and already spent some months in prison for an unaggravated crime. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to find security for good behaviour for the time equal to remainder of his sentence.
