Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on Edward Passey, indicted (with John Patrick) in October 1790, for stealing 2 silver goblets, value £5, property of Thomas Armiger. Guilty of simple larceney. Evidences supplied by Mr Dickens and Mr Williams. Grounds for clemency: mistaken identity - both prisoners were tried in the evening and it was impossible to keep the court in 'profound silence' and their names were misheard; at least 1 witness was referring to the prisoner on the right - meaning his right and not the Recorder's right. Initial sentence: only the verdict was recorded. Recommendation: Passey only, free pardon.
Folios 294-295.
