Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on Edward Anderson, seaman, convicted at the Old Bailey in April 1787, for stealing a smock-frock and woollen jacket, value 8/-, property of John Edwards, salesman. Evidences supplied by John Edwards, Mary Hargest, George Edwards and the prisoner. Grounds for clemency: had claimed innocence, the theft did not involve any violence and he had already served 3 years ('Public Justice' has already been served). Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to enlist in HM. Navy.
