Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on 1 individual petition (prisoner) on behalf of William Stocksbridge, shopkeeper/fishmonger, convicted at the Old Bailey in February (or April) 1790, for stealing a watch, value 30/-, property of Thomas Reeve/Reid. Evidences supplied by Thomas Reeve/Reed and the prisoner. Grounds for clemency: the watch was not found upon him, first offence, previous good character, never breached the trust of his last employer (7 years service), has an aged mother and father much affected by his sentence, offers to serve in HM. Navy and to provide sureties for the same. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to enlist in HM. Navy and find sureties for the time equal to remainder of his sentence.
