Report of Francis Buller 1 individual petition (Josh Eyles, 4th Lieutenant of HMS Alfred) and 1 collective petition (14 people, principal inhabitants of Fatfield in the parish of Chester le Street in Durham; the majority of the signatories are Members of the Fatfield Prosecution Association which had prosecuted him in 1786) on behalf of John Didsbury, convicted at the Durham Assizes in 1786, for stealing wearing apparel from the dwelling house of George Holmes, on 13 July 1786. Eyles father had been a member of the Fatfield Prosecution Association at the time of the prosecution. Grounds for clemency: first offence, was born of respectable parents, is sensible of the enormity of the crime for which he is penitent, was formerly a seaman (served in 'the last War') and could serve on a ship of war, has undergone 4 years imprisonment and is well recommended for mercy. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: free pardon.
