Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (prosecutor and 5 other men from Whitechapel in Middlesex and Houndsditch in London) on behalf of Jacob Solomon, convicted at the Old Bailey in December 1788, for stealing a cotton counterpane, value at 10/- property of Edward Gibbons, from his shop. Evidences supplied by Thomas North and Edward Gibbons. Grounds for clemency: first offence, has been ill during his imprisonment and the counterpane was passed to an accomplice (Moses Harris, watchman) who has since received a conditional pardon to transport himself for 7 years. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation (currently in Newgate). Recommendation: the same should apply to Solomon as to Harris.
