Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on David Jones, waiter at the Bell and Gate Inn, convicted for stealing a 'velveret' waistcoat, a man's hat, a pair of cotton stockings, 91/2 guineas and 6d, and 2 £10 bank notes, property of William Blick, keeper of the Bell and Gate Inn, High Holborn. Evidences supplied by Sadler, Hoville and Ling, the latter 2 being servants to the prosecutor. The judge stated that the prisoner abused the confidence of the prosecutor. The judge also stated that the prosecutor 'gave his evidence like a low ignorant foolish man' but that 'his story [still] deserves credit. Recommendation: no mercy.
