Letter of Francis Burton, Deputy Recorder of Oxford. This is a late reply to Lord Sydney's letter found upon returning to Oxford to hold sessions duties on Joseph Simmonds. The judge requests the assistance of Lord Sydney as urged by the magistrates of Oxford for the removal and speedy transportation of the prisoner who was apprehended escaping again from the Oxford City Gaol. There is mention of 3 other unnamed convicts who are 'liable' for transportation after receiving conditional pardons, and their removal too, is urged. However, prisoner Simmonds remains principal object of the City magistrate's worries. Folios 214-215. See also HO 47/3/55, folios. 179-80.
