Report of Francis Burton, Deputy Recorder of Oxford on:
1. Joseph Simmonds, convicted at the 'last' sessions of the peace and gaol delivery at Oxford, for being at large before the expiration of his 7 years transportation sentence to Africa, received for a previous conviction of grand larceny. Ground for clemency: upon the recommendation of the judge and jury and warranted by the circumstances of the case he is referred for further mercy. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: transportation for life to Africa.
2. William Smith and John Hawkins, convicted for burglary. Grounds for clemency: the offence was committed without violence or threats. Initial sentence: both - death. Recommendation: Smith, mercy - no further report.
