Letter from James Adair, Recorder of London, submitting a list of capital convicts tried at the Old Bailey, held as respites in Newgate prison and recommended for further mercy. If the Government is to adopt an immediate plan to transport women, then 4 Women on the list are considered fit for transportation. This exercise was conducted in order to clear Newgate prison either by discharging prisoners or removing them. The judge has used various symbols to identify the status of prisoners according to their terms of sentence and gender.
