Report of Lord Kenyon on Edward Holmes, convicted at the Shropshire Summer Assizes, in 1785, for sheep stealing. Very detailed written evidence supplied by Richard Cartwright, gaoler for Shropshire. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, had behaved well in gaol, provided the authorities with information regarding planned escapes and some prisoners now threatening to kill him. Initial sentence: death, commuted to transportation for life. Recommendation: free pardon.
