Report of Richard Perryn on 1 collective petition (9 people, including clergyman/employer, 3 prosecutors and 2 magistrates) and 1 individual petition (prisoner) on behalf of Edward Pearce, servant to John Hawkins, clergyman, convicted at the 'last' Worcestershire Assizes, for grand larceny and stealing from a shop. While in gaol he wrote a letter to an accomplice in Shrewsbury. This was opened on the orders of a magistrate and the letter contained details of several house breakings and burglaries he had committed over a period of time. Grounds for clemency: persuaded others of his previous good character and had acted well while in gaol. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: transportation for life.
