Report of James Adair, Recorder of London, on George Watson, alias Pinkney, convicted at the Old Bailey on 23 May 1787, for stealing 'a pocket, with a pen knife and some halfpence', property of Ann Reynolds, a public house keeper near St. Giles. Grounds for clemency: case was 'very slight' and the evidence doubtful, initially only charged with not paying their bill, had respectable parents, brought up to a trade and not appearing to be a common thief. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: pardon, to leave the kingdom for 3 years.
