Report of William Henry Ashhurst on 1 individual petition (H. Hobart, although this also acts as a covering letter) and 1 collective petition (12 people, including that of the Mayor of Norwich) for mercy on behalf of Sarah Potter, convicted (with her husband) at the Norwich (Norfolk) Assizes at Norwich on 18 July 1785 of knowingly receiving stolen goods. Grounds for clemency: previous good character; first offence, innocent of husbands transaction; ulcer on her leg makes it unlikely she should survive voyage; has agreed with her husband that she should attempt to stay in England to look after their 11 year old son. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Recommendation: free pardon because of her health and previous good character.
