Separate reports of Beaumont Hotham and Francis Buller on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (4 people, including the mayor[?] of Winchester and Prebendaries of Winton) on behalf of Elizabeth Dillon, convicted (under the name of Elizabeth Shoocroft/Shewcroft) at the Hampshire Lent Assizes at Winchester in 1785, for perjury (swearing she was not the wife of Charles Dillon on trial before Justice Buller for highway robbery). Evidence supplied by John -------, Keeper of Winchester Gaol. Grounds for clemency: youth (21 years), has already served 1 year in gaol, has given birth to a sickly child whilst in prison who may not survive transportation and was probably forced to commit the perjury by her husband. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: Hotham - none made; Buller - mercy.
