Report of Richard Perryn on 1 individual petition (the prisoner) and 1 collective petition (3 people connected with St. Botolph's Church) on behalf of John Usher, convicted at the 'last' Kent Assizes at Maidstone for stealing a piece of linen, valued at 30/-, from a shop belonging to William Sloman of Greenwich. Grounds for clemency: youth (17 years), under the influence of older men who caused him to be intoxicated and carry out the crime, the evidence against him was falsely supplied by people seeking a financial reward for a capital conviction, and he would be willing to serve at sea. Initial sentence: transportation. Recommendation: no mercy.
Folios 160-162.
