Report of William Henry Ashhurst on 1 collective petition (9 people including churchwardens, overseers and farmers of Lidgate, Suffolk) on behalf of John Jacob, convicted at the Suffolk[?] Assizes in March 1785, for stealing 2lbs of wool, value 2/-, and stealing a sheep skin. Grounds for clemency: good previous character, regrets his crime, his neighbours are 'not afraid' of his returning to the area and there are logistical problems in transporting prisoners. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation[?]. Recommendation: free pardon.
