Report of George Nares, on Sarah Williams, housewife, convicted at the 'last' Worcestershire Assizes, for stealing from a shop. Grounds for clemency: she had been forced to steal by her husband who beat her if she did not supply him with money and she was 8 months pregnant. Initial sentence: six months imprisonment. Recommendation: free pardon; James Eyre, who initially tried the case agreed with Nares.
