Report of William Ashhurst on 2 collective petition (2 people, prisoner and gaoler; and 11 people including members of the Grand Jury, magistrates, vicar, army officer and a lawyer, on behalf of John Garner, of Lying near Market Dereham, Norfolk; convicted at the 'last' Essex Assizes at (both Thetford and Ilford are separately given as place of trial), for stealing 5 pigs, property of (James Dickens and John Diggens are separately given as victim) of Market Dereham, in October 1784. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, first offence and while in prison he had informed against other convicts planning to break out. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: free pardon.
