Report of George Nares on 2 collective petitions (the 2 prisoners - husband and wife, and 6 Shropshire magistrates) on behalf of John Watkins, convicted at the Lent Shropshire Assizes, 1783, for stealing a horse, property of John Baker; and Ann Watkins, convicted at Lent Shropshire Assizes, 1784, for stealing a horse, property of John Richards. There are letter evidences supplied by John Rowland, Gaol Chaplin and Samuel Wilding, Keeper of the Gaol, regarding the prisoners. Grounds for clemency: good behaviour while in prison and the fact that John Watkins' health is failing due to his continued confinement. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation to America. Recommendation: their request to 'transport themselves out of your majesty's Dominions' for the remainder of their terms should be consented to.
