1 item extracted from CO 879/33/11. Portuguese East Africa (now Mozambique) and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). 'Sketch map shewing proposed transport route from Mt. Hampden [near Salisbury (now Harare)] to Beira': showing the route taken by Dr [later Sir] Leander Starr Jameson and Major Johnson, a proposed alteration to the route, Portuguese stations, and native kraals. Reference table; notes on the terrain. Scale: 1 inch to about 17 miles. Lithographed by Judd and Co.
Having persuaded Lobengula, the Matabele King, to allow a pioneer expedition to Mashonaland in 1890, Jameson accompanied the expedition as far as Salisbury, before exploring a route from there to Beira.
