Description

7 maps of towns and cities. (2) 'Reconnoisance of Gaza of the villages of Harrat It Te Fear and Sejaeah ...': showing mosques, barracks, a well, a chapel, graves and roads leading out of Gaza (now in the Occupied Territories). Reference table; note on contour lines. Scale: 1 inch to 200 yards. Compass indicator. (3) 'Plan of Jaffa [now Yafo, Israel]': showing roads to Gaza, Acre (now Akko) and Ramla and the fortress. Scale: 1 inch to 300 feet. Taken from a sketch by Major [A W] Robe. (4) 'Plan of the Town and Environs of Jerusalem': map showing roads leading from the town, Siloam village, mountains, the castle, tombs etc. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to 400 feet. Compass indicator. (5) 'Plan of Defences of the town of Kaiffa [now Haifa, Israel]': map showing the road from Acre (now Akko) to Mount Carmel and Jaffa (now Yafo) through the city. Scale: 1 inch to 60 yards. Compass indicator. (6) Showing the defences of Acre (now Akko, Israel) town and harbour. Scale: 1 inch to 200 feet. Compass indicator. (7) 'Plan of the Town and Defences of Sidon [now Saida, Lebanon]': showing the upper and lower castles, and the road to Beirut. Reference note to streets arched over and contours. Scale: 1 inch to 200 feet. Compass indicator. Surveyed by Lieutenants E Aldrich and J F A Symonds, Royal Engineers, March 1841. (8) 'Sketch of Beyrout (now Beirut, Lebanon) and its vicinity': showing roads leading to and from the town, camps, gates and burial grounds. Scale: 1 inch to 400 feet. Compass indicator. All items signed by Lieutenant Edward Aldrich (except item 7 signed by Lieutenant J F A Symonds) and by Colonel R C Alderson, June 1841. All items originally enclosed with Colonel Alderson's report dated 10 June 1841. Dimensions: (2) 60 cm x 47 cm; (3) 28 cm x 44 cm; (4) 46 cm x 55 cm; (5) 29 cm x 44 cm; (6) 47 cm x 55 cm; (7) 47 cm x 54 cm; (8) 48 cm x 57 cm.
