France: Bay of Biscay: 'Pascaart de Boght van Vrankryrk Biscayen en de Noord kust van Galissen door J.C. Vooght Géometra': chart of the Bay of Biscay and the north coast of Galicia, by J C Vooght. Title on tablet in rural scene, with three putti. Scale: 9.1 cm to 20 geographical miles; scale bars also in Dutch, Spanish, English and French miles. Compass rose with rhumb lines. By Caspar Lootsman, Amsterdam.
Caspar Lootsman was in business on his own from 1679 to 1711, while J C Vooght may be Claes Jansz Vooght who died in 1696: for these reasons, a date between 1679 and 1696 is suggested. 'Lootsman' was a name used by the Jacobsz family, according to R V Tooley, Dictionary of Mapmakers, (Map Collector Publications, 1979).
