'The North Sea': map showing 'the approximate positions of German Submarines on the occasion of the High Sea Fleet sortie of August 19 th 1914'. Compass roses. Published at the Admiralty, 4 June 1913. New editions 1917, 1919 and 1922. Magnetic variation 1922. Corrections 1923 and 1924. This chart apparently replaced a tracing mentioned in accompanying note as showing 'the positions of the enemy submarines on the occasion of the sortie of the High Sea Fleet on the 19th August, 1916, which is considered to be the greatest concentration of these vessels directed against British warships'. Paper NSC 18 of the Committee of Imperial Defence Sub-Committee on the Question of the Capital Ship in the Navy, 1920-21.
