1 item extracted from CO 879/11/21. Southern Africa. 'Map of South African Republic (Transvaal) and the surrounding Territories ...' by F Jeppe, FRGS [Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society], Pretoria, 1877. The map shows Griqualand West (now in the Cape Provinces, South Africa), Cape Colony (now the Cape Provinces, South Africa, Orange Free State (now Free State, South Africa), Basutoland (now Lesotho), Natal and Zululand (now Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa) and Portuguese possessions. Also shows the route taken by Captain Warren RE and Mr Ravenscroft; approximate line of proposed railway to Delagoa Bay (now Maputo Bay), the limit of the tsetse fly, state lines. Reference table to boundaries, missionary stations, travellers' routes, possessions etc. Distances table. Separate table referring to distances and heights of projected railway from Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) to Drakensberg. Inset maps of Pretoria, Lourenço Marques and Zimbabwe (spelt Zimbabye on the map) ruins. Engraved by Edward Weller, FRGS [Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society].
