Description (What the record is about)

Korea: Pusan. Plan of the harbour, showing sites of Chinese, Japanese and Foreign settlements, and the site of the proposed Russian godown [storehouse]. Deer Island, Mudge Island, anchorages, the beacon and Fairway Channel are also shown. A detail dated 9 September 1897 shows the overlap of the Russian depot and the proposed additional foreign settlement and cholera hospital. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to 5 cables. Compass indicator. Copy of the map enclosed in a letter dated 28 August 1897 from J N Jordan, consul general at Seoul, to Claude MacDonald KMCG, at Peking, concerning Russian proposals to obtain a concession on Deer Island for use as a drill ground and coal store. Forwarded to the Admiralty by the Foreign Office.
