Marlborough [to St John]: having drawn Villars towards Villers-Brûlin, he formed a strong force from the garrisons of Douai, Lille, Tournai and St Amand, which met near Douai and then marched to Arleux. He has passed Villars's lines without him offering battle. Dated at camp at Vergier. ff. 218, 219
