Marlborough and Lord Townshend to St John: there has not yet been a reply from the elector Palatine, but they have heard indirectly of his consent. They are at a loss where to find the other four battalions. The states general have agreed that the Dutch warships forced back from the Bay of Biscay may be used to convey them. They have assisted Sir James Wishart in his commission to persuade the Dutch to augment their strength at sea. They enclose a copy of a letter from Mr. Wich [SP 87/6/6] and the response [SP 87/6/10]: General Velling desires a conference with him on the affairs of the king of Sweden.
